"So you think you know this town...where to get the best margaritas, the most romantic view...where to take out-of-towners, and not just Graumans (Manns). Well, you can add a few more stops to that tour, because there's more to this town than meets even a native's eye..."

"Fallen Angels satisfies our satisfaction with violence, blood and crime. The first printing of 3,000 copies sold out in two weeks, evidence that (Marvin J. Wolf and Katherine Mader) have tapped into a seemingly timeless market..."

"Tales of Terror From Movieland. No Hollywood scriptwriter could come up with the type of bizarre and horrendous stories that are featured in this book...a collection of 39 true Los Angeles crime stories, all in their own way notorious and sensational...written in an entertaining and informative style. The authors knew what they were talking about. Marvin J. Wolf is an experienced journalist based in Los Angeles, and Mader is a criminal justice attorney in the city."

"From bandits, to starlets to serial killers. This book for Los Angeles history buffs--like me. Stories from the 19th century, through the gangsters and movie stars of the 20th, and even into the awful serial killers beyond. These crime descriptions are quick to read ('Just the facts, ma'am') but what I love best is the locations at the end of the story. The homes of the criminals and victims and the sites of the crimes--if the places still exist--are spelled out so that you can drive by the places. Thelma Todd's Cafe? Tiberico Vasquez' hideouts? Right there waitin' for you...If you've ever wondered about the backstory of some of Los Angeles' most sensational crimes--or about the crimes that were hushed up--this is the book to read." 4 Star Amazon review on Amazon by V. Kalambakal "Best Book About Historical L.A. Crime & With Great Writing Style! I owned this book for decades, then lost it a few years ago. Pining for it ever since, I just had to buy another one. What sets this book apart from other 'true crime in L.A.' books are 2 things. First, it covers crimes you may never have heard of, even if you are familiar with L.A. historical crime. What about Louise Peete or Harvey Glatman or--most remarkably of all--Otto Sanhuber and Walburga Oesterreich? You don't know about these. But you will if you read the book. Secondly, Marvin Wolf is an amazing writer. His style is crisp and evocative. How can you not read a story that begins, "He was a creep and a momma's boy..." 5 Star Amazon review by Backlot Lover "Now you'll know 'Who done it'! Great, well written stories of crime and misadventures in Los Angeles. Pictures included and Maps! Kindle version has links that take you to the scene of the crime. Clever and entertaining. A book you will remember, and full of ammo for your next cocktail party." 5 Star Amazon review by Justjon Read more Amazon customer reviews. Avg. review 4.3 out of 5 stars |
